↗ MapsHead Up the Mountain
Bogotá's signature viewpoint at 3,152m — 500m above the city. The funicular (rack railway) takes you up the steep hillside. The basilica at the top is a pilgrimage site, and the views over the entire Bogotá savanna are incredible. Souvenir shops, restaurants, and cafes at the summit too.
⏱️ Ride duration: ~10-12 minutes each way
🕐 Hours (Sat): 6:30 AM – 10:00 PM (last funicular up at ~8:30 PM)
💵 Price (Sat): Round trip $35,000 COP (~$8.50 USD) · One way $21,000 COP (~$5 USD)
🚕 Getting there from Click Clack: ~15-20 min Uber/taxi, about $6-8 USD. Head south on the Av. Caracas or Septima. Arrives at the base station near La Candelaria.
💡 Tip: Best in late afternoon — catch golden hour over the city. By the time you descend, the city lights are stunning. Warm jacket essential — it's significantly cooler at the top.
Casa San Isidro
Top-rated French-Colombian restaurant on the mountain. Seasonal menu, exceptional service (ask for Francesca). Filet mignon, roasted duck, salmon, French onion soup. Spectacular sunset view. Reservations recommended.
Santa Clara
Classic Colombian dishes: Bandeja Paisa, Ajiaco Santafereño, plantain meatballs stuffed with pork. Historic colonial building. Also does "onces santafereñas" teatime at Café Santa Clara. More casual than San Isidro.
Monserrate Grill
Casual grilled meats and typical Colombian fare. Overlooks the nature reserve. Good option if you want something quick and laid back while enjoying the view.
Verdict: Go for Casa San Isidro if you want an excellent dinner with a view and don't mind spending — it's been one of Bogotá's top French restaurants for 40+ years. Santa Clara for a more casual Colombian meal. Monserrate Grill for quick grilled meats.
